Safety & Seasonal Guidelines

The New Baltimore Conservancy encourages visitors to enjoy the outdoors responsibly while exploring the lands we steward, including areas such as Long View Park. Conditions in natural environments can change throughout the year, so we ask all visitors to follow these safety and seasonal guidelines to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

General Safety

  • Stay on marked trails and respect posted signage.
  • Wear appropriate footwear for uneven terrain and natural surfaces.
  • Carry water and plan ahead, especially during longer hikes or warm weather.
  • Supervise children and keep pets under control at all times.
  • Help protect wildlife and native plants by observing from a distance and leaving natural areas undisturbed.

Seasonal Considerations

Spring
Trails may be muddy or soft as the ground thaws. Please walk through muddy sections rather than around them to help prevent trail widening and damage to surrounding vegetation.

Summer
Bring plenty of water, wear sun protection, and watch for ticks and insects. Stay on established trails to protect sensitive habitats and pollinator areas.

Fall
Falling leaves can hide roots and rocks on trails. Use caution when hiking and be aware that hunting seasons may occur in nearby areas—wearing bright or blaze-colored clothing is recommended.

Winter
Snow and ice can create slippery trail conditions. Proper winter footwear such as traction devices or snowshoes may be necessary. Visitors should also be aware of shorter daylight hours and plan outings accordingly.

Help Protect the Land

Our natural areas are shared community resources. Visitors can help protect these landscapes by practicing Leave No Trace principles: carry out what you carry in, respect wildlife, and help keep trails clean for future visitors.

By following these guidelines, visitors help ensure that NBC’s lands remain safe, healthy, and welcoming for everyone who enjoys the outdoors. 🌿
